SeaLink South Australia’s iconic paddlewheeler, PS Murray Princess, has won Gold in the Major Tour & Transport Operator category at the prestigious 2024 South Australia Tourism Awards, recognising SeaLink’s dedication to delivering unforgettable journeys along Australia’s, and one of the world’s, most iconic rivers.
Tracy Croft, General Manager – SeaLink South Australia, expressed her immense pride in her team’s accomplishment and gratitude to all those who support SeaLink’s vision of bringing the very best of South Australia to visitors from around the world.
“Winning this award is an incredible honour for our entire team who are passionate about what they do, and what they get to share with guests who board with us from all around Australia and the world, to embark on a truly unforgettable experience.”
“This recognition underscores the immense passion and commitment our team has for the Murray River region and community. Day in and day out, they bring the magic of a river cruise to life, creating brilliant memories for our guests,” Ms Croft said.
With a legacy spanning over three decades, the Murray Princess is the largest inland paddlewheeler in the Southern Hemisphere and a true symbol of riverboat heritage in Australia. Built in 1986 and cruising at a leisurely 6 knots from her home port in Mannum, South Australia on the Murray River, the vessel offers a unique window into the scenic beauty and history of the Murray River.
Over the past year, the Murray Princess completed 79 cruises, welcoming more than 7 thousand guests to experience the charm of river cruising with a dedicated, passionate crew. Although flooding along the Murray River has been devastating for the region, impacting homes, businesses and communities, throughout this challenging time, the Murray Princess has continued to play a role in helping support the river economy through tourism and keeping the spirit of the river community alive.
The Murray Princess’s win highlights not only her iconic status in Australian river tourism but also SeaLink’s dedication to heritage tourism that brings travellers closer to the unique natural beauty and cultural significance of South Australia’s waterways.
Donna Gauci, CEO of SeaLink Marine & Tourism, added: “The Murray Princess represents far more than a vessel; she is a cherished part of Australia’s riverboat heritage and a proud chapter in the SeaLink story. This award is a testament to our team’s passion and commitment who work tirelessly to ensure every journey aboard the Murray Princess is remarkable and memorable.”
As SeaLink’s Murray Princess continues to navigate the picturesque passages of South Australia’s “Outback River Highway,” she carries forward a legacy of connection, culture, and community, introducing travellers from around the world to the serene beauty of the Murray River.
This Gold Award further solidifies SeaLink South Australia’s position as a leader in the tourism and transport industry and reinforces its role in shaping the state’s tourism landscape. Winning gold sees SeaLink South Australia and the Murray Princess go on to represent South Australia in the national Tourism Awards being held in Adelaide on 21 March 2025.
