Kelsian Group celebrates major milestone with 'Oceans to Outback' Challenge
Thursday 04 December 2025
Kelsian Group, a leading provider transport and tourism services, is celebrating the outstanding success of its sponsorship and team participation in the "Oceans to Outback" virtual community challenge, which has officially raised a total of $4,514,719 to deliver life-saving care across Australia.
The massive fundraising effort will enhance access to healthcare for Australians in remote, rural, and regional areas with Royal Flying Doctor Service, significantly contributing to better health outcomes in those communities.
Kelsian Group’s CEO, Graeme Legh, commended the dedication of all participants and the powerful impact of the funds raised.
“Kelsian Group is incredibly proud to have supported the Oceans to Outback community in their monumental fundraising effort.
“Achieving a final tally of over $4.5 million is a phenomenal testament to the commitment of everyone involved, including every single person who virtually travelled 1,382,596km by running, walking or cycling,” he said.
Mr Legh added that the initiative directly aligns with Kelsian’s purpose of connecting communities and providing essential services.
“By helping to deliver greater access to healthcare, we are ensuring more Australians can receive the same standard of care, regardless of their location.
“This fundraising success provides safety, security, and vital health services across our nation, and we look forward to continuing this important partnership next year.”
Among the standout participants in the 2025 Oceans to Outback Challenge was Sarah Young, Customer Experience and Communications Manager at Transit Systems NSW, who not only raised an impressive $1,634 but also clocked up 346 kilometres during the month-long challenge.
James Turner, Horizons West General manager, also went above and beyond in this year’s challenge. Not only did he raise the company’s highest individual funds of over $7,000, but he also clocked almost 300 km throughout the month.
Erik Ranford, Workshop Admin Inventory Manager at Torrens Transit, brought serious endurance to this year’s RFDS Oceans to Outback Challenge. While supporting a cause close to his heart, he also trained for, and completed, his first 115 km ultra marathon!
Dale Rutherford, Business Manager at RiverCity Ferries, clocked the highest number of kilometres for SeaLink and his passion for the cause and commitment to fitness made him a standout participant.
“I had prostate cancer two years ago, and there were many challenges with that. Running before and after cancer helped reduce the impacts. It’s cliché, but I’m a firm believer in getting comfortable being uncomfortable.”
Sean Lace, one of Kelsian’s Procurement Specialists, didn’t just participate, he smashed expectations, logging an incredible 558 kilometres, the most of anyone across the entire Kelsian Group.
Mr Legh added a congratulations to all involved.
“We are so proud of each and every one of our team members who took to a bike, the bitumen or treadmill to raise awareness and funds for such an incredible cause. Thank you!”
Royal Flying Doctor Service said the funds will be deployed to support emergency services and primary healthcare access in areas where it is most needed.
With nearly 10,000 employees across Transit Systems and SeaLink Marine & Tourism, Kelsian is proud to get its teams involved and looks forward to continuing the support of Oceans to Outback in 2026.
