Transit Systems has successfully steered its Western Australian operations, Go West Tours, into more sustainable services with the launch of the state’s first private electric commercial coach.

It is estimated that the new electric coach will We are reducing emissions by 467.35 kg CO2 per week.

Transit Systems CEO Michael McGee said collaboration, knowledge sharing and operational excellence are the driving force behind the company’s sustainability success.

“Our history spans decades when it comes to testing and trialling different zero emission technology, which means we are well-placed to partner with governments and clients and integrate the right technology for the local network.

“We commend Go West, South32 and the West Australian Government on their commitment to decarbonising local services, and appreciate that as a group we have all been able to contribute to a better environmental outcome for WA,” he said.

Transit Systems operate Australia’s largest electrified bus depot in New South Wales, with Australia’s largest electric bus fleet, in addition to operating South Australia’s first hydrogen buses, with hybrid buses also deployed.

“We test and trial the latest technologies at scale, so that our partners and stakeholders can invest in greener solutions confidently, with proven outcomes.

“We believe our continued investment and research assists our partners in reaching zero emission goals as efficiently as possible, especially when we leverage our industry best practice and combine it with local network knowledge,” he said.

Mr McGee said the fastest way to decarbonise a city or service is to get more people onto mass transport.

“Whether it’s a mining site or a commute to work or school, our passion is to generate meaningful savings for the environment, while delivering safe, reliable and convenient services that communities want to use over and over again,” he said.
